Our Homeschooling Curriculum Choices for 2020-2021

I shared in Instagram stories recently about our decision to homeschool this year.  This is our first year to ever homeschool!  My children have attended our local public school since kindergarten and we have always felt confident in this decision.  This year, however, we made the decision to homeschool in light of the pandemic and all of the uncertainty it brings.  When I shared on Instagram about our decision, I received many messages asking for curriculum resources.  Because of this, I have compiled all of the curriculum I will be using at this point in time.  Depending on how this...

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. Because they offer many options that keep my kiddos engaged and interested while covering...

From the High School Lesson Book - A Resource Collection for Science

This post contains affiliate links - using affiliate links from Homeschool Coffee Break helps fuel this blog.    Every time I pull together a list of science resources, I'm tempted to feel like we didn't do enough science at the high school level. And while it's true that my kids didn't choose courses of study that were science-focused, we did have some good experiences with a few out of the ordinary resources and still covered the basics. This is one subject where it's important to remember that homeschooling is about tailoring education to a student's needs. All students should plan on...

Plants & Fungi: A Connection Between Sun and Soil

Collaboration One aspect that struck me as I wrote Earth Party! was how collaborative living things truly are. Flowering plants depend on wind, insects, and animals to propagate. If left to their own devices, they would not produce fertilized seeds. Plants need animals; herbivores (plant eaters) such as birds, deer, rabbits, and rodents need plants. Fungi’s Role In Earth Party!, we tackle the story of classification of life using the 5 kingdoms – bacteria, protozoa, fungi, plants, and animals. Of these kingdoms, what is amazing is how related fungi and plants are. Fungi includes organisms such as mushrooms, lichen, yeast,...

Free Booklet Style Homeschool Planner

Our newly updated FREE Booklet-Style Homeschool Planner is now available! At the beginning of each semester, I often change up our homeschool planner a bit. The past couple of years, I have been using a booklet style homeschool planner because it’s a bit easier to carry around (and keep track of). I print out the pages one-sided, fold them in half and use our Spiral coil binding machine to bind it together on the left-hand side. This year, I added in new daily/weekly planning pages (in particular the Monday through Friday pages, but also some new checklist pages and grids...
