This week we took a tour of Casa Três: A Former Merchant’s Quarters in Portugal’s Algarve, now a guesthouse. “Beautiful,” one reader commented. “Would love to know where the white-metal frame chair with red fabric in the bedroom is from.”
As is custom in this column, you asked, we answer. Here’s the scoop:
The Sighting

Above: The verdict? The chair is the iconic Paulistano chair, it’s a Brazilian riff on Bauhaus style, designed in 1957 by Paulo Mendes da Rocha for Objekto. For a similar bright color palette, opt for the Paulistano Canvas Chair in Paprika and a carbon steel frame powder-coated in white (it’s shown here in chrome); £1,062 from Twentytwentyone.Like all originals, Paulistano chairs can be pricey; see how one Remodelista contributor DIY’ed the design back in the day for a high/low take.
