Rainforest Villa and Optional Guest House with Whitewater Ocean Views

Situated in the Costa Rica rainforest 625 ft above sea level in a gated community, this luxury villa is considered by the ex-pat community of Ojochal to have the most magnificent view of any property in the area. The panorama is one of virgin rainforest with no houses to mar it, and beyond is 180 degrees of sparkling Pacific ocean. Behind the 2,500 sq. ft two-story luxury villa rises the mountainous rainforest. In Ojochal, the property is located only a 6-minute drive to the paved road, 7 minutes to the supermarket, ten minutes to the Costanera Highway, 12 minutes to Playa Tortuga beach, and a 7-minute drive to the best restaurant in Costa Rica's South Pacific Coast, “Exotica”.

Built to North American Construction Standards

Built 11 years ago to North American construction standards, the house was designed to take advantage of both the stunning views and the constant breezes that come down from the mountains at night and up from the ocean during the day. The mature gardens are beautifully landscaped with abundant fruit trees ranging from lemons, bananas, and mandarin oranges, to papayas, coconuts, and even pineapples.

The large bright kitchen is a cordon bleu chef’s delight. An island with an expansive granite kitchen counter, state of the art glass stove-top and handcrafted wooden wine rack is your centerpiece of culinary excellence. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, oven, warming oven, fridge, dishwasher, stovetop and a double sink. From the Your view from the stovetop looking south through high arched doorways is a large front patio, the outside dining area, and a stunning infinity-edged pool that is the largest in the area. The spacious pool is completely private and has a submerged step along the deep end of the infinity wall. The 180-degree view stretches across the virgin rainforest, from the river mouth to the white caps of the Pacific.

For its tranquility, views, abundant wildlife and close to town visitors call this home a paradise on earth. The toucans, parrots, Oropendolas and scarlet macaws fly feet above the pool, and monkeys serenade you every morning and evening.

Guests enter the house through the designer hand-carved double doors, the archway opens up to a stunning spiral chandelier hanging from the 38 ft ceiling. Sitting on the patio, drink in hand, you’ll notice the floor tiles have a unique ceramic design, as does the entrance hall. The real “wow” moment is when you notice the spectacular virgin rainforest and whitewater ocean views.

There are two very large master bedrooms with private bathrooms. The upstairs bedroom features a large bathtub as well as an expansive door-less shower which allows you to soak in the vista as you take a shower. The master has a 300 sq ft balcony plus a large walk-in dehumidified/security/changing room. Both the master bedrooms face the forest and ocean, taking advantage of the incredible views that surround the house. The third bedroom faces out over the garden and tropical rainforest.

Large Office with Built-In Desk and Rainforest Views

In case you have to work in paradise, the second floor has a large office with a built-in L table with plenty of open space. The office has an enormous sliding window that faces out onto the garden and tropical rainforest. Be warned, the wildlife distractions are better than the best BBC wildlife documentaries; and all less than 20 feet from your desk! All three bedrooms and offices have air conditioning, but with the constant breeze and ceiling fans, they are rarely needed.

In-Door and Out-Door Living Space

Apart from the exterior dining area, there is also a large interior dining area on the ground floor plus a living room with settees for 6, with electrical outlets on the ceiling and wall for your video projector and its electric screen. Of course, the wiring for your surround sound and for the patio speakers is also built in. The last two rooms in the house are the large laundry room (with laundry tub, washer, dryer & hot water tank) plus a small “bodega” to store gardening tools and other supplies such as a spare BBQ propane tank.

Beautiful Grounds with Easy Access to the Property From Ojochal

As you arrive at the villa, driving up a lower surrounded concreted driveway, there’s a delightful and amusing electric steel artwork gate featuring two toucans doing the tango, designed by famed Australian artist/animator David Gurney. Past the gates and halfway up the driveway, there is a lockable carport that is large enough for your car and 2 ATV’s. Then at the top of the paved driveway on your left is a workshop bodega with a built-in concrete workbench, that is large enough to also park your side-by-side ATV.

Finally, last but not least, there is your “Ponte Jardin”. This is a unique Coralina floored bridge from the 2nd floor that also leads to the upper garden and the Ylang Ylang, mango, banana and mandarine trees.

Optional Two-Bedroom Guest House Addition

Also available is a two-bedroom / 1 bath guest house on 1.07 acres. This second residence is situated above the upper garden for guests and/or a caretaker to manage the property if you would like to use it as an income-producing vacation rental.

With the guest house and extra land:

  • 5 bedrooms
  • 4 bathrooms
  • 2.49 acres
  • 4,500 sq.ft. of construction
  • Asking price: $950,000

Whether you are an investor looking for an income-producing real estate asset or a buyer looking for a beautiful home to retire to in Southern Costa Rica, this offering presents a great opportunity either way.
