When life gives you lemons, squeeze up all the juice and use up the peels !
Here are 15 different ways you can use the humble lemon peel.. you’ll save a lot on the beauty and health department!
1. Make a kitchen air freshener.
Use lemon peels and other ingredients for an inexpensive air freshener to help eliminate bad cooking smells from your kitchen and make it smell beautiful.
2. Make a face mask.
Make a lemon peel mask to lighten acne scars and even out your skin tone.
3. Freshen your dishwasher.
Pop a lemon peel, a full lemon wedge (or one that’s just been juiced) on the top rack of the dishwasher either skewered on one of the plate wires or in the cutlery compartment and run a normal cycle. The lemon will freshen the load with a faint lemon scent and will leave your dishes sparkly.
4. Make an all-purpose cleaner.
Simply place lemon peels in any jar and pour white vinegar over them. Put a lid on the jar and sit for two weeks. Strain the liquid and combine it with water so it is 50/40 and use as an all-purpose cleaner.
5. Plant seedlings in it.
After you’ve squeezed a lemon and you have the peel, you can use it to plant seedlings for your veggie garden. Not only do they look cute, but they add nutrients to the soil.
6. Candy them.
Candied lemon peels make a great gift for Christmas or can be used as a fantastic looking cupcake garnish.
7. Shine your sink.
Along with baking soda, white vinegar and olive oil, you can use lemon peel to make your dull stainless steel sink sparkle again.
8. Make candles.
Use the hollowed out peels to make candles they look pretty and smell great too!
9. Treat varicose veins.
Dried lemon peel along with ginger, juniper and rosemary can be combined to make a bath tea to help reduce the appearance of varicose veins.
10. Repel cats.
Cats don’t like citrus scents. If you have a problem neighbourhood moggy you want to scat, try grating some lemon peel and scattering it where you don’t want the cat to go.
11. Make a salt scrub.
Use lemon peel, salt and olive oil to make a body scrub for a smoother skin.
12. Make dust cloths.
Damp cloths are infused with vinegar to help kill off bugs, while the lemon peel and olive oil that were added will bring shine to your furniture.
13. Clean your mugs and cups.
Rub the inside of a mug or cup with a lemon peel to get rid of stubborn tea and coffee stains.
14. Infuse olive oil.
Use the peel to add awesomeness to your olive oil great for gifts or to keep for your own cooking creations.
15. Keep brown sugar soft
Nothing is worse than your brown sugar being rock hard when you need it for baking. Add some lemon peel to the bag make sure all the pulp is removed and it will keep your sugar soft!
