Our 7th Grade Homeschool Curriculum 2022-2023
Literature
Last year, we took a break from Sonlight and used Tapestry of Grace for a year. This year, we’re back at it with Sonlight and loving it. Cuddle Bug is using Level F. In this level, many of her literature books are set in the Eastern Hemisphere.
Writing/Grammar
She already finished Essentials in Writing Level 5 this year and found it a bit easy, so she’s just started on Level 7 this week. Essentials in Writing offers a grading service for $107 for the year. I plan to enroll her in the grading service for next year for Level 8 because she often prefers hearing someone else’s opinion besides mom’s.
History/Geography
For history/geography, she’s also using Level F from Sonlight. However, I’ve gone through this level twice before with my other kids, so I know from experience that the textbook that comes with the curriculum is DRY. Instead of using that, we’re watching a variety of YouTube videos and documentaries to learn more about the different countries we’re studying.
Art
Cuddle Bug took an art class from our co-op. For the year, we don’t follow a set curriculum because she prefers to spontaneously create art on her own.
Science
She loves learning through literature, but that can be difficult to find in a science curriculum. This year, we tried using Mater Amabilis’ Level 3 Year 2 science, and she doesn’t hate it, so that’s good. We’ll move on the Mater Amabilis’ high school science next year.
Math
Cuddle Bug is finishing up Math-U-See Epsilon and will start Zeta sometime in the spring. I’m hoping she can get through Zeta earlier in her 8th grade year so she can then go on to pre-Algebra.
Extra Curricular Activities
This year, Cuddle Bug has many extracurricular activities.
First, we belong to a homeschool co-op that has fun, virtual classes. Every week, we also meet up with this group for a field trip.
Second, she volunteers at our local library and at an animal shelter. She’s averaging three to four volunteer hours a week.
She’s also taking coding classes through a local engineering site.
Finally, she’s taking gymnastic class and has rejoined American Heritage Girls. (We stopped participating during the pandemic.) She keeps busy!
